Chapter 16

Dinner was the usual chaos of gossip and teasing. Dell, Wyatt, Cormac, Addison, Tye, Christian and Valentino all sat around a large private dining table and chowed down on paprika roasted chicken. Cormac was leading the conversation. His excitement over their imminent trip bubbled out as he spoke. Addison added his two cents here and there but mainly watched, with loving amusement as his gingersnap nattered on. Wyatt swallowed a piece of chicken and asked.

“Sounds like you’re going to have a great time but what about the language barrier? Is Addison going to translate for you?”

Before Cormac could answer, Addison chimed in. “Of course I will. Last thing I want is to lose this crazy redhead in central China. It’s not like he’s not gonna stick out as it is.” Laughing at his own comment, Addison looked over at his man. Cormac’s mouth twisted into a knowing smile.

“不要擔心我艾迪生。我能照顧好自己就好了.”The words coming out of Cormac were so unexpected, the whole table gasped in shock. No more so than Addison. Gaping at Cormac Addison was gob smacked. Grinning like the devil Cormac added “ 閉上你的嘴.”

“HOW? DID YOU…? WHAT THE FUCK!” Addison sputtered eyes like saucers.

Christian giggled out loud. The whole table turned to stare at him. Getting hold of himself he addressed Addison and the group. “Well my Chinese is kinda rough but I think he just told you to ‘Not to worry about him. He can take care of himself.” Christian sniggered. “And to close your mouth.”

The whole table erupted in laughter. Crimson red, Addison trained his gaze on his smug redhead and demanded. “How…No, WHERE did you learn Chinese?”

Grinning like a Cheshire cat Cormac sipped his wine, drawing out the moment. “When your mom gave us the tickets I was thrilled. I was also freaked because I couldn’t speak the language. Well your mom and I have been meeting at least twice a week and she has been teaching me Chinese. I have work books, audio tapes and her. You know how you had to go out of town for two weeks, for your work? She came over and for those two weeks we only spoke in Chinese. I’m okay at speaking it. But I can understand it better than speaking it. Surprise!” Cormac was immensely proud of himself, enjoying the bewildered shock on his guy’s face.

“You don’t give yourself enough credit Cormac. Your accent is odd but you did a great job. If you want, I can hook you up, after you come back, with one of the classes in Chinese at Emporia. We can help you refine it and teach you how to read it.” Christian was delighted to see how proud Cormac was of learning one of the hardest languages out there.

Nodding vigorously, Cormac smiled wide. “I would love it. I loved it when Li and I were at Publix chatting in Chinese. It shocked the shit outta people. It was SO sweet!”

Tye ran his hand along Christian’s leg. Christian turned and blinded Tye with the happiness in his face.
